April, 2009
On December 22, 2008 over one billion gallons of wet coal ash inundated 300 acres near Kingston, Tennessee when a retention pond wall collapsed. This spill flooded the nearby Emory River which feeds the Clinch River and makes it way into the Tennessee River.
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) wanted an expert on water consulting where polymers are used to separate solids from liquids as well as conducting aquatic toxicity studies if polymers were to be added to a river.
TVA contacted WATER ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTANTS,LLC of Chattanooga for this consulting contract and Donald L. Seagle has been active at Kingston since January, 2009 using his 30+ years of polymer experience, patent innovation, and liquid/solids separation background.
Mr. Seagle founded WATER ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTANTS,LLC in 2002 after retirement from American Cyanamid/Cytec Industries water treating department. Mr. Seagle graduated from the University of Chattanooga with a chemical degree and was plant manager for GAF Corporation on Polymer Drive here in Chattanooga. Mr. Seagle’s patent represent a polymer based innovation which is still in use today where organic cationic polymers are used to dewater Industrial wastewater.
